"Snowshoe Trek" To former prison camps at Barre Falls
Winter 2009
Approx. Time: 10:00 a.m.
Price $45.00
Snowshoe rentals $6.00 per person

Come with us and experience the magical beauty of a wintry forest, while we keep an eye out for wildlife along the way. Learn the basics of snowshoeing, as we discover the history of the former prison camps that existed back in the early 1900's.

Our trek will begin at the Barre falls Dam in Hubbardston, Massachusetts. Here your guide will briefly review logistical information before we start the day. Barre Falls is part of the Ware river water shed, which empties into the Quabbin Reservoir. Our trek is approximately 3 miles in length, and should take approximately 2 1/2 to 3 hrs. to complete (give or take depending on the group). You will be on a relatively flat surface, with a few moderately easy inclines. To end our day we'll enjoy a delicious bowl of hot soup and sandwiches to melt away the chill.

Hiking activity rating: Easy to moderate
