Women's Overnight Kayak - August 2009

Experience an overnight kayak excursion on the Connecticut River with other like minded women. This trip encompasses sixteen plus miles of calm, clean water coursing through farmlands and forests as we meander the Northern reaches of the Connecticut River. We'll begin at the Bidell Bridge Landing located in Haverhill N.H., paddling approximately seven miles to Bugbee Landing, where we plan to pitch our tent and spend the night. Along this stretch of the river there is plenty of wildlife viewing, especially birds for our enjoyment. There are several places where steep cliffs rise from the east shore where Peregrine falcons, and other birds of prey make their nest, if were lucky we'll get to see them!! Other wildlife viewing includes; kingbirds, kingfishers, spotted sandpipers, and egrets, so be sure to bring your binoculars.

The next morning we'll head down river with Vermont to your right and New Hampshire to your left soaking up the sun as we discover new sights around every bend. Today we paddle approximately nine miles to our destination in Orford, N.H. Possibly stopping along the way at one of many of the Connecticut River's natural beaches for a quick dip and lunch before we end our day...

Skill Level: Participant must be comfortable paddling up to 9 or 10 miles on a flat water river with current, with occasional head winds and white caps.
